How to play roulette

Learn European and American roulette basics: wheel layout, inside and outside bets, odds in plain language, and what to expect in an online lobby. 18+ only.

This guide explains how roulette works in plain language: what you are betting on, how European and American wheels differ, and how online games (RNG and live dealer) fit the same rules. It is educational only — not betting or financial advice.

What you are betting on

Roulette centres on a wheel with numbered pockets and a ball that lands in one pocket each round. Before the spin you place chips on a layout that maps to groups of numbers (or to single numbers).

Online, outcomes come from either:

  • a certified random number generator (RNG) tied to an audited game file, or
  • a live stream of a real wheel and dealer.

The betting ideas are the same: you are paid according to the rules printed in that game’s help / paytable — always read that screen before you stake real money.

European vs American layout

Treat European roulette as the clearest baseline while learning: numbers 1–36 plus a single zero, with many ways to combine bets on the layout.

Inside vs outside bets

Outside bets cover large groups of outcomes — for example red/black, odd/even, dozens, or columns. They tend to hit more often but pay smaller multiples.

Inside bets target individual numbers or small clusters (split, street, corner, line, etc.). They hit less often but can pay more when they win.

Practical tip: Payouts and table limits are not universal. They are defined per game and per operator — confirm in the in-game rules for the exact title you opened.

Odds, independence, and myths

Each spin is independent. Past results do not “owe” a colour or a number. Betting systems do not remove the house edge; they only change how you structure stakes and risk.

If you play for real money:

  • use only money you can afford to lose
  • set deposit limits and session reminders where the operator offers them
  • pause if play stops feeling like entertainment
