Champions League 2026–27 Matchday 1: Fixtures, Odds & Predictions

The 2026–27 UEFA Champions League league phase begins on Tuesday, 8 September 2026. A 36-team single table replaces the old group stage. Matchday 1 has 18 fixtures across Tuesday–Thursday: Real Madrid vs Inter and Napoli vs Arsenal at the top of the bill, plus debutants Sabah, Viking FK, LASK and Como.

Two favourite spreads are wider than a dollar: Stuttgart −550 at FanDuel vs −385 at BetRivers, and Manchester United −900 vs −670 (the second-widest on the board). Draws and coin-flips move 10 to 20 cents.

Tuesday: Mourinho's Return, City in Porto and Villa in Belgium

AEK Athens vs LASK (8/15 AEK). AEK are back in the competition proper for the first time since 2018/19 and have won nine of their last 11 UEFA home matches. LASK are debutants who ended an 11-match winless European run by beating Celtic 5–1 in the play-off second leg. Only one of AEK's last 22 group-stage matches has been goalless.

Club Brugge vs Aston Villa (6/4, 13/5, 7/5). Villa have one point from three Premier League matches and are missing Amadou Onana long-term, plus Brian Madjo and Johan Manzambi. Emery's European counter: 13 wins in 15 during last season's Europa League title run, three defeats in 21 group/league-phase games, nine clean sheets in 16 European outings. Brugge are second in Belgium (four wins from five), have lost three of their last 22 UEFA home matches, and beat Villa 1–0 here in 2024/25 before losing the round of 16 3–1 and 3–0. Joel Ordóñez is out. A draw is the most likely outcome on paper.

Real Madrid vs Inter (3/5 Madrid, Sky Bet).

José Mourinho begins his second spell at Real Madrid by hosting the Inter side he took to a treble in 2010. Madrid have won six of the last seven meetings, 19 of their last 21 against Italian opposition, and Matchday 1 in 17 of the last 19 campaigns. Inter are winless in 13 away matches in Spain since 2004, but none of their last 15 league-phase games has ended level and they have failed to score in only two of their last 19 Champions League matches. Mbappé sits on 70 Champions League goals, one behind Raúl. Courtois makes his 100th appearance if selected.

Porto vs Manchester City (Porto 7/2, City 3/4, Sky Bet). City's 150th European Cup match comes where Porto have lost one of their last 14 UEFA home games. City have lost six of their last nine Champions League away matches; their last trip to Portugal ended 4–1 at Sporting. Porto, under Francesco Farioli, have won two of their last 16 against English clubs. 3/4 is a short price against that road record.

Wednesday: Arsenal in Naples, Atleti at Anfield, the Holders Begin

Stuttgart vs Viking FK (1/5 Stuttgart). Stuttgart have never won a Champions League Matchday 1 (D1 L3) but won all four home Europa League league-phase games last season. Viking are Norway's second consecutive debutant after Bodø/Glimt and are winless in six away games against German opposition.

Barcelona vs Feyenoord (1/14 Barcelona). Barcelona have scored 50 goals across two league phases, eight more than any other club, and have not kept a clean sheet in their last 15 Champions League matches. Yamal needs two goals to tie Mbappé's record for most Champions League goals aged 20 or under. Feyenoord are winless in 11 European away games and have lost eight of their last 11 against Spanish sides. FanDuel are an implied 1/10.

PSG vs Slovan Bratislava (1/25 PSG). Holders have won Matchday 1 in each of the last four seasons, with clean sheets in the three most recent, and have played one 0–0 in their last 118 European matches. Slovan lost all eight league-phase games in 2024/25 but arrive unbeaten in seven UEFA matches. Ferran Torres, signed from Barcelona 12 days before the draw, could feature. FanDuel are −2000.

Napoli vs Arsenal (Arsenal 8/11).

Match of the round. Arsenal conceded seven goals in 15 matches last season, kept nine clean sheets, went unbeaten in regulation time, and are unbeaten on Matchday 1 in their last nine European campaigns. Seven wins in ten against Italian clubs, including both legs of a 2018/19 Europa League quarter-final vs Napoli. Napoli have won two of their last ten in the competition proper and lost their last three against English sides; they did beat Arsenal 2–0 here in 2013/14, with Arteta sent off as a player. LetsBetMD have Arsenal −118.

Liverpool vs Atlético Madrid (4/6 Liverpool). Rematch of last season's Matchday 1 (Liverpool 3–2). Liverpool finished top three in both league phases and have won their last six against Spanish clubs in the format, four clean sheets in five. Atlético have never won a Champions League group or league-phase match against an English side (D4 L6) but have failed to score in only two of their last 24 in the format. Koke reaches 150 UEFA club appearances if selected.

Thursday: Bayern's Streak, United's 300th and Como's Debut

Como vs RB Leipzig (Como −102 to −115). Como's first UEFA fixture. Serie A-low 29 goals conceded last season; already beaten Napoli away this term. Leipzig have not kept a clean sheet in their last 18 European matches and have won one of their last ten in the Champions League proper. American books make the debutants favourites.

Bayern Munich vs Bodø/Glimt (−714 to −900 Bayern). Bayern have won their opener in 22 straight campaigns and are unbeaten in 38 home group/league-phase games since December 2013. One more goal makes them the second club to 900 in European Cup history. Kane has 54 Champions League goals in 70 games. Bodø/Glimt have scored two or more in 11 of their last 12 UEFA matches and drew 2–2 at Dortmund last season. Bayern's 9–2 over Dinamo Zagreb remains the highest-scoring single Matchday 1 match.

Manchester United vs Sabah (United −670 to −900). United's 300th European Cup match, first English club to the milestone, first Champions League appearance since 2023/24. Carrick's side have won one of their last seven group-stage matches. Sabah are Azerbaijan's second-ever league-phase club and won six of eight in qualifying.

The Title Winner's Matchday 1 Edge

PSG 1/25 is an accumulator anchor, not a value price. The other side of the trend is the losing-finalist hangover: Arsenal, last season's runners-up, try to defy it away in Naples.
